The sea of our country is extremely large with over 4000 large and small islands, of which there are over 3000 islands in the Northeast Sea alone, in addition, there are 40 islands in the North Central Coast, the rest in the South Central Sea and the Southwest Sea. and both Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos in the center of the East Sea.

As the largest archipelago in the North, with an area of 2,171.33 km2 (with a mainland of 581.83 km2) and a sea surface area of 1,589.5 km2, Van Don (Van Don district, Quang Ninh province) has many values in terms of landscape, ecology and tourism. Large sea area, many beautiful and unspoiled natural beaches, rich and diverse ecosystems, fresh environment, not much affected by human factors, Van Don is like a hidden gem and a sleeping princess waiting for the prince to wake up. Van Don’s greatest potential is the advantages of marine economic development. Van Don sea area has many islands interspersed creating relatively deep and closed ecosystems, less affected by storms. Adjacent to large fishing grounds, it is convenient for ships to go out to sea, sail fishing, conduct trading activities, exploit seafood, suitable for ships, boats to enter and take shelter during storms and storms. . In particular, nature favors this land with natural aquatic resources that are not only large in volume but also in variety and precious seafood with high economic value such as: Garrupa, Pomfret, Mackerel, Decapterus, Ilisha elongata, Peanut worm, Lobster, Abalone, Spotted babylon snail, Crab… There is hardly any place in the country that can match the quantity and quality of seafood like Van Don.

Over the years, the development of offshore fishing fleet has brought many economic benefits. The system of ports and means of transport is relatively powerful, with experienced workers and experts, the exploitation and processing of seafood has really become a spearhead industry of the island district. Expanding the fishing area to ocean fishing grounds not only brings high productivity up to thousands of tons of seafood annually, but also contributes to the protection of coastal seafood resources. Along with catching natural seafood, Van Don also zoning, aquaculture, and salt making, bringing great benefits to residents and businesses.

In fact, this place is very suitable for seafood farming, especially for molluscs such as: Snails, Clams, Pacific oysters…Currently, the molluscs farming industry in the district has grown tremendously in both scale and area. Geoducks and oysters are the two farming objects with high economic efficiency that are of the most interest. For people, the important thing in molluscs farming is that it’s inexpensive and easy! Besides seed, farmers do not have to invest in feed costs. Because their food is already available in nature, it is mainly marine algae that in Van Don sea grow with high, diverse and dense density.

The project of concentrated molluscs hatchery on Lo Ho Island, Van Yen commune, Van Don district cooperates with Tan Lap Company to prepare resources to invest to ensure the project’s goals.

With the development orientation of the Special Economic Zone, Van Don tourism and service industry is developing strongly day by day, attracting many businesses to invest, visitors to visit, relax … bring commercial profits for products processed from seafood very large.
